Traditional Worship

We call our first service on Sundays “Traditional” for in music and service style it is a classic Lutheran form.  All this said, members and visitors tell us that it is “traditional worship done well.”

Both the hymns and liturgical setting come from the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship (ELW) hymnal, a new worship resource of the ELCA

Our service includes the reading and engaging proclaiming of the Word, prayers, and the weekly sharing of Holy Communion.

Lyndale / Salem Kids and Youth

Children of all ages are invited to participate in our shared Sunday School program with Lyndale UCC. The larger Sunday School allows us to have more age-appropriate lessons in faith development, Bible, creative expression, and music.  Our Youth Group program also meets weekly for faith-based activities, discussions and events.

9:30

Coffee Time

Sometimes it’s strong, sometimes it’s weak, but the company is always good.  Oh, and for the non-coffee drinkers, there are other options too.

Adult Forums

This weekly offering is an opportunity to grab a cup of coffee and join in Bible Study, a topical discussion, or a presentation by a member or outside resource on a specific subject.  Check the most recent newsletter for details of the current schedule.

10:30

Discover (Jazz) Worship

The Discover Service, as our 10:30 a.m. non-traditional service is called, is another way of worshiping God.  Acoustic Jazz/gospel and an eclectic collection of music led  by our musicians on bass, piano, guitar, and sometimes saxophone under-gird this service.

The service is designed to be open, comfortable, and accessible to varied ages and life situations, with enough consistency to be sacred and enough change to be engaging.  This can be a good place to explore and strengthen your spirituality in a community of Christians.

The service includes:  singing, prayers, reading of scripture, engaging preaching, Holy Communion, and a time of reflection where people share further questions and ideas about the sermon’s message.

Salem has a professionally staffed nursery during the 10:30 service and there are activities for children under 8 years.  We invite families to worship together, especially as the service begins and during Communion.
